Spotlight Interview: Mr.Envi’ (PurpleBars)

We had the opportunity to interview this talented rapper. Check it out below:

PB: How was it growing up in Bossier city?
I’m originally from Alabama. I moved to Bossier City after I graduated high school, but did some traveling for a while before actually settling in to the city.

PB: Who were some of your musical influences growing up?
I grew up in the 90’s, so a lot of my influences came from artist of that era like 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Method Man, Black Rob, Snoop Dogg, Daz Dillinger of the Dogg Pound, MJG and even Too $hort. So you could say, that I was heavily influenced by the west coast.

PB: Who are some of your favorite artists now”?
I still follow some of those same artist, but I’ve added on to my list like – T.I., Big K.R.I.T, Curen$y, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Dave East and a few others. It’s also a lot of underground artist I follow that’s got skill, but no recognition outside of their local area.

PB: What do you think of the hip hop scene in Louisiana?
In my opinion, the hip hop scene here is wide open. I mean, we had Hurricane Chris break out from the Shreveport/Bossier area, and of course you had the No Limit run, but Baton Rouge has the spot right now. Cause when you look at it, there’s a lot coming from there. You got Kevin Gates, NBA Youngboy and lot more others, plus you’ve got vets who are still in the game like Boosie Badazz, Webbie and yes, Mr. “How U Do Dat” Young Bleed. But I said all that to say that the music scene here is steady evolving and it’s wide open for the next big thing.

PB: How would you describe your style?
Like I mentioned earlier, even though I’m from the south, my style of music was heavily influenced by the west coast, with a southern twang and a little bit of the east coast. Almost like a pot of gumbo.

PB: Who do you want to collab with in the future?
On the cool, I’d like to do a track with MJG, but I’ve been wanting to collab with Daz Dillinger for a while now. He’s steady puttin’ out music, doing what he loves ya digg!

PB: How much has your music changed since your first single?
Man… My music has evolved a lot since then. I mean, as I get older, my views change and my music along with them.

PB: What is the main inspiration for your lyrics?
Stayin’ true. I try keep it real when I write music. I can’t rap about thing I haven’t done or been around.

PB: Where would be your dream venue to perform in?
-No venue in particular. I just like to do my thing in front of a live crowd who enjoy real music.

PB: Just for fun, Boosie Badazz, Lil Wayne, or Juvenile?
Juve

He also told us about his upcoming project:

“Tha 40oz EP was really a spur of the moment kinda thing. On the cool, I’m about to turn 40 this month, so I was in the studio trying to think of a way I could commemorate me still doing music at the age of 40. And that’s how Tha 40oz EP came about. Once I made up my mind to do the project, it took me a week to write and record it from start to finish. The project features production from MistaTBeatz and JTL, who also guest feature on the EP, along with Mr. Hympdok and Big Ced”.

Tha 40oz EP is scheduled to be released on July 27th and pre-orders are set to begin Monday, July 9th.

In the future, he plans on:

“Doing a regional tour in the south to promote the release during the early fall. After the tour is over, spend some time with my family and start on the next project.”

He is definitely an artist to keep an eye out for. Make sure you go stream and purchase his music and follow him on his journey:
